| Pensacola is the county seat of Escambia County. It is a sea port on Pensacola Bay, which connects it to the Gulf of Mexico. The first US Navy airbase is located southwest of the city and is home to the Blue Angels flight demonstration team and the National Museum on Naval Aviation. It is also known as "The City of Five Flags," home to "World's Whitest Beaches," "Cradle of Naval Aviation," "Western Gate to the Sunshine State," "America's First Settlement," "Emerald Coast," "Redneck Riviera," and finally, "Red Snapper Capital of the World."Pensacola's total area including 16.9 square miles of water is 39.7 square miles. Its climate is subtropical with mild winters and hot, humid summers. The city gets about 64.28 inches of rain each year with July as the rainiest month and April as the driest. |
