| Vernon is a city in Washington County. Its estimated population was 757 as of 2004. Vernon is named for George Washington's Virginia home, Mt. Vernon, and is the geographical center of Washington County. It was also the site of a major Indian settlement. Vernon was the county seat of Washington County until 1927 when the seat was moved to Chipley. Vernon is also known for the documentary film, "Vernon, Florida," by Errol Morris, produced in 1981. The total area is 4.7 square miles, all land. |
